Mayumi Kimura, LCSW

Mayumi enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 27, 2001. As an Operations Specialist, she deployed to the 7th (Western Pacific and Indian Ocean), 5th (Persian Gulf) and 3rd (Pacific Ocean) Fleet Theater of Operations while aboard the U.S.S. Fife (DD-991), U.S.S. Blue Ridge (LCC-19), and U.S.S. Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6).

After separating from the military, she explored various career paths until she found a role as an office manager at a home hospice agency. While there, Mayumi established the We Honor Veterans program, which provided specialized care and ceremonies for Veterans at the end of life. It was also during her work in hospice, that she was inspired to pursue a Master of Social Work degree after watching hospice social workers performing what seemed like magic - helping families and clients experience peace and comfort through some of the most challenging times of their lives.

Following her education, Mayumi gained diverse experience in the field of social work, including inpatient psychiatry, emergency mental health crisis response team, and as the Director of The Housing Unit for Military Veterans (HUMV) at the Middlesex County Jail and House of Correction in Massachusetts. She eventually landed at a Vet Center, where she provided individual and group therapy for Combat Veterans, Veterans with military sexual trauma, and Gold Star families.

In 2021, Mayumi established the first Insight Therapy and Consulting in Massachusetts. Insight of MA specializes in PTSD and trauma, with a focus on providing services to underserved communities such as children, elderly adults - in addition to communities that are historically under utilizers of mental health services, including Veterans, military, first responders, and immigrants.

In 2024, Mayumi expanded her practice to California and opened Warrior’s Insight Therapy, a practice focused on serving military, responders, and their families. The Warrior’s Insight Team brings together experts and providers who have firsthand experience, so care is relevant and competent for the communities they serve.
